Summary
So, the snow was no problem. Sure, there wasn't much, but there was enough – and more arrived. The feeling of winter was strong, something which had been lacking back home, so that was nice. I could have done with a bit less wind, but it wasn't particularly cold, and that everything quieted down so perfectly for the Night was a wonder I feel privileged to have attended. Timing is, indeed, everything.
Apparently quite a few people had fled to the fjelds for similar reasons, which was half expected – the other half being that they could have been thwarted by the (feared) lack of snow. But then again they probably thought that everyone else thought so, and went anyway. Or... And so on. While it was full well beyond capacity, it did not feel crowded, and no one had to sleep in the kitchen, which is always positive. I also hadn't seen Karin for some time, so that was nice as well.
The visit to Tväråkåtan was a spur-of-the-moment thing; I considered the possibility when looking at the map that same morning, but it was not until I gazed at the adjacent ravine-and-hill from the slope down to Lunndörrsån that I felt that it was feasible, given the weather and snow conditions – and the fact that I had brought no lunch with me. As it turned out it was a fairly uncomplicated tour, and it felt good to do something on a day that might otherwise have been spent indoors. The weather wasn't that bad, especially since the only snow in the air was that which whirled up from the ground – and there wasn't much of that to begin with.
The one downer was the continued problems with the ski boots. I don't really know why, since I didn't experience such during the Tjäktja stint, but it is something I will have to look into for coming tours, because it is No Fun.
There will be no warden assignment this winter for me, but I'll see if I can't do something else before the summer one is to start...
