Introduction
I had been wanting to do a longer (or at least semi-long) tour during this summer for quite some time, having already abstained during a fairly long stretch of fair weather in July due mainly to excessive heat and mosquitos – but also because I simply didn't have a plan for precisely what to do, or where to do it.
When another stable high-pressure appeared on the long-term forecasts in August I started giving more serious thought to it, and came up with a few ideas. At first I centered upon Sarek, since it had been quite some time since last I was in that area, but for various reasons I started drifting away from that option. Jämtland to the rescue, where after some false starts I arrived at Sylarna as the main destination and drew up a series of closely related plans involving going around the massif, with an ascent of Storsylen from the Norwegian side as the main attraction. The start was to be in Enafors, utilizing the somewhat forgotten-about trail past Silverfallet (Silver Fall) which I had been meaning to check out, with a saved bus transfer from Duved to Storulvån as an added bonus.

As the departure time approached the forecasts took a turn for the worse, with the initially so promising stretch of fairness reduced to a couple of days, but for various reasons I saw this as my best shot anyway, so I decided to go for it and hope for the best.
Here, then, is the full account of what transpired during the subsequent five days. Each section has a header consisting of a short overview of the stage in question, complete with a map showing the route travelled. A ring marks the starting point, a square the lunch break location, and a star the destination. Vertical distances have been calculated from the map and have an accuracy of 10 m. All breakfasts consisted of oatmeal porridge, tea and a sandwich, and all lunches of two cups of instant soup and a sandwich.
