Sunday 25/7 – part two
First day
I unlocked the warden's cottage at once, which also houses the woodshed and storage areas, and once I had found a suitable box I put out the fresh food in the local earth cellar. As I went down to the designated bathing site at the adjacent Anarisstugtjärnen the clouds were breaking up quite nicely, and although the water was rather cold it also felt good to be clean again.
Back up the two overnight guests had returned, and I spoke some with them while having a look inside the guest cottage. Having called Helena to proclaim my arrival I then went to fetch water, for which the aforementioned tarn is not used; rather it involves going 150 meters or so along an undulating path to a deep pool in a brook that runs across mireland. As I came back two campers arrived from the east, intending to pause (and bathe) before going on. After some quiet time inside a single hiker came from Vallbo, followed by another pair; still only campers, and I related what tips I had about campsites and water access.
The sky had now grown cloudier again, with a pleasant effect on temperatures. I did a quick check of the shop – which had been officially discontinued during the preceding winter, and now consisted of a single cupboard with whatever goods remained in store – and the storage compartments, and then started unpacking my own provisions which had been waiting there since the beginning of April. In the midst of this I also had dinner since the afternoon was turning into evening, during which I was interrupted by a dinner purchase from the cottage guests.
Two more tenters passed by from the east after which there was a short and pleasantly cooling shower. I started going through various papers, interrupting myself to go out into the beautiful evening light. One of the tent pairs had set up camp on one of the low hills down near the tarn, and were now sitting in the slope looking out over the waters. As another light shower turned into actual rain I mostly finished my paper tasks, finding pretty much everything I needed. A cool wind had picked up, and after my evening snack the weather took a general turn for the worse. The cloud base was still high, however, and it was a colorful sunset this first night in Anaris.
