Summary
So, this had it all: solitude, companionship, confining fogs, vast vistas, storm, calm, cold, warmth, and good food. I was glad that I decided to challenge the wind on Friday so as to reach Sylarna, since I was rewarded with the excellent Saturday. I had been to Sylarna before, but Blåhammaren was a new experience, and a terrific one at that. This won't be the last time I sit in their dining room, for sure!
My equipment also passed the test with honor; the gliding difficulties during the second day can be fully attributed to the tough snow, and were no fault of the skis, as was clearly evident during the last day, when I slipped down the slopes at great speeds. One thing I had overlooked, however, was to bring a smaller water flask of some kind, easily accessible during skiing – it would have come in very handy during the tougher portions of the first two days. On the other hand, my decision to bring a large, 1-liter thermos of hot water rather than a smaller, lighter one proved valuable instead. I did use the soda bottle I bought at Sylarna as a water flask during the last day, though, discovering that the anorak's chest pocket could hold it with ease.
Since this was the first longer tour for quite some time, the "extra" free day after I had returned home felt good. I hadn't planned any more such extended weekends for the coming weeks, but I soon started to regard the Easter holiday with some interest – an interest which before long was turned into practice...
