Summary
So, not what I expected. Was it a waste of time, then? No, visits to the fjelds never are. There is also something to be said for bad weather days, when the lack of distraction from grand vistas allows for introspection, and the monotonous task of putting one foot in front of the other puts you in an almost meditative state. Or something. In any case, it was of course a bummer not to be able to go (or, rather, to feel up for going) the intended way, but now I at least know how that valley looks... What is absolutely certain is also that lunch in Sjtäntja was infinitely more pleasant than it would have been out in the rain (and snow). While the passage of Tjallingdalen was wearying, the arrival at the Tjallingån bridge was contrariwise invigorating, and the following evening was very pleasant; that was really a great campsite, and I heartily recommend it to others.
Now, the weather did improve later in the second day, so perhaps going through Ö Bunnerskalet and onwards would have turned out worthwhile anyway, and the passes between Miektjieburrientjahke and Laptentjahke on the one hand and Stråten and Miektjieburrientjahke on the other were evidently clear on the third, but from what I could see down from the road it would have been somewhat troublesome coming down through the forest. But enough! Being at Tjallingen felt rather good in itself, and that's that. It was also good finally paying a visit to Stensdalen in summertime, as I have been there so much during winter.
With this little excursion now past I look forward again. Next up: Vålåvalen!
