Introduction
Having had some bad luck with the weather during my previous periods of off-time in Abisko, it now looked like the tables would be turned, and I had an extended number of days to make use of. One alluring goal right from the start had been the remote Vadvetjåkka National Park, and I now decided to seize the opportunity to visit it – it is normally a very rainy place, so a prognosis with nothing but clear skies for days on end simply could not be ignored.
Packing was done in something of a hurry, so I have no gear list, but the contents were similar to the Unna Allakas tour earlier in August, just for a shorter period of time.
Here, then, is the full account of what transpired during the subsequent four days. Each section has a header consisting of a short overview of the stage in question, complete with a map showing the route travelled. A ring marks the starting point, a square the lunch break location (if any), and a star the destination. Vertical distances have been calculated from the map and have an accuracy of 20 m. All breakfasts consisted of oatmeal porridge, tea and a sandwich, and all lunches of two cups of instant soup, a sandwich and water.
